Assessment

We focus on what our clients want to work on and what is meaningful and purposeful to them; not what we feel is important.
Once we have identified what is important for those involved, we will arrange to observe the child doing those actual tasks as part of the initial consultation or assessment. So, if the child is having trouble handwriting, or playing, or catching and throwing balls, we will observe them doing just that.

We then define those actions that the child performed well in and those that proved difficult for them in order to get to the bottom of why they are having trouble with that skill.

What We Offer

Comprehensive Assessment

This assessment uses a variety of standardised test and is useful for children having difficulties across a number of areas. The tools used and areas assessed vary depending upon the areas of concern.

A comprehensive report is provided but it may take up to 4 weeks to complete the report.

This is the type of assessment we use for:
  • Funding Assessments (including government school funding applications, private school funding applications and VCE Special Examination Arrangements Assessment)
  • A comprehensive overview of the way that your child is learning at school
  • Understanding how your child is processing sensory information or regulating activity and attention levels.

Brainstorming Assessment

This is our most popular type of assessment and is ideal if you want to have an overview of your child’s difficulties in one particular area such as handwriting, play skills, social skills etc.

Standardised tests may or may not be used and a comprehensive report is generally provided within 1-2 weeks.

This type of assessment suits those who would like to begin treatment earlier rather than later.

User-friendly Reports

Information from the assessment is conveyed into a meaningful report for the family, school and other professionals involved with the child.

We use images to illustrate findings and remove the therapy jargon so that it’s easy to read.

We also endeavor to convey information in a concise way so it’s not overwhelming, while at the same time providing the right amount of information outlining the nature of the child’s difficulties, and what can be done about it.
